Sun Belt Football Weekly Preview – Week 10

Oct 31 2011 No Comment

MATCHUPS

Louisiana-Monroe at Louisiana-Lafayette

Troy at Navy

Florida International at Western Kentucky

Arkansas State at Florida Atlantic

Middle Tennessee at Tennessee

The headliner in this list of games is the matchup between
Florida International and Western Kentucky. One year ago, FIU won the league
while WKU finished in the bottom tier of the conference, a place it had become
accustomed to. Now, the Hilltoppers are improbably sitting above the Golden
Panthers in the conference standings. Western Kentucky’s only loss is to league
leader Arkansas State. Coach Willie Taggart is trying to do the unthinkable:
guide his team from a 2-10 season in 2010 to a bowl game in 2011. It’s
possible, and if WKU can knock off the defending Sun Belt champions, that
reality will move one step closer to fruition. Can Florida International – a
very uneven team this year – regain the form of last year’s championship team?
The Golden Panthers still have a difference-making receiver in the person of
T.Y. Hilton, but quarterback Wesley Carroll has struggled to get the ball to
him. Carroll’s level of play will be the main thing to watch in this clash
between the defending Sun Belt champions and the biggest surprise in the
conference this year.
