Sun Belt sends three teams to NCAA regionals Florida Atlantic and Louisiana-Lafayette receive at-large bids

Florida International punched its ticket for the NCAA tournament by winning the Sun Belt Conference tournament in Murfreesboro, TN over the weekend.

With top 40 RPI’s, Florida Atlantic and UL-Lafayette knew they would likely receive bids.  However, they would have to wait until Monday to find out their destiny for sure.

The Owls and Ragin’ Cajuns weren’t disappointed, as they both received bids.

FAU (35-22) is the No. 2 seed in the Gainesville Regional.  The Owls are paired with Pac-10 at-large selection Oregon State (31-22) in their first game.  The other match-up features host and No. 3 national seed Florida (42-15) playing Bethune Cookman (35-20)

ULL (37-20) received a No. 3 seed in the Austin Regional.  The Ragin’ Cajuns will play perennial national power Rice (38-21) in their first contest.  The winner of that game will meet either No. 2 national seed Texas (46-11) or Rider (36-21) in game two.

The conference tournament champion FIU Panthers (36-23) won’ travel far as they are the No. 3 seed in the Coral Gables regional.  They will tangle with Texas A&M (40-19-1) in game one.  Host Miami (40-17) will face Ivy League representative

Dartmouth (26-17).
